  1. Default Albuquerque, NM to Williams, AZ

We are planning on driving from Albuquerque, NM to Williams AZ to visit the Grand Canyon in late December. Does anyone know how that drive on I-40 is in the winter through Flagstaff. Is it a okay drive in the winter, or should we go another route? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

That stretch of road does get snow during the winter and occasionally even severe storms. What the weather will be like when you want to drive it cannot be known until a couple of days before your drive at best. But what can be known is that I-40 is clearly the road of choice between Albuquerque and Williams. If the weather will be too bad to make the drive on I-40, it will be too bad for any possible alternative. Your best bet is to start keeping an eye on the forecasts about 5 days before your scheduled drive. If it starts looking like the weather will not be cooperative, you can choose between making the drive a day or two earlier or a day or two later. Just don't force the issue by driving in weather that makes you or your passengers uncomfortable.
