14-day West US Road Trip

My companion and I are planning our first road trip. I have no clue as to what to do and where to start. I found this website in hopes that someone can help. I am traveling December 22, 06 for 14 days starting in Seattle WA. I would like to visit Washington State, Oregon, and North California. I will be departing from Seattle on January 4th. Does anyone have any suggestions on what cities to visit, places to see, where to stay (budget accomodation), and ideas on rental car? Any help would be great.

2 Weeks should give you plenty of time to tour the Pacific Northwest. I'd spend the first half of the trip driving along the coast all the way down to San Francisco, and then I'd come back seeing whatever things I thought were interesting. For more specific things, try searching the forum and entering in words like Oregon Coast, this area has been discussed quite frequently lately, and our resident Washington Stater, Judy, has provided lots of links with things to do and see in that part of the country.

As far as the other logistics, it shouldn't be hard to find budget hotels along the way, and for car rentals, you'll need to shop around the major rental firms. The holidays may drive prices up a bit during your trip, but otherwise it shouldn't be difficult to find a car as long as you are over 25.

Could you give me an idea of what types of things you want to see and do? Are you interested in national parks and other natural wonders? Or city life? Or history? Or culture? And are there any specific things you already have in mind?

Give me some ideas to start with and I'll give you my suggestions.
