  1. Default Where do we go from Here?! Help! Ski next Easter

We love the states (from UK) and like to visit at least once a year and combine skiing with a major city - we travel as a group of four adults and four kids. We normally come for 14 to 16 days at a time. So far we have done Breckenridge+Denver+fly to Vegas and this year San Francisco+ Lake Tahoe. Where do we go next Easter?! To complicate matters we have free ski passes for next year so feel we'll go back to Lake Tahoe (suckers for a bargain...). What city / region do we combine with? Is LA safe for kids? Is it better to go to San Diago? New York and fly into Reno? Or Northern California - where do we fly into to see Redwoods etc. Any ideas anyone?? We're happy to drive about 4 -6 hours in any one day and like to spend about 4 to five days not skiing. We'll fly anywhere as long as the initial flight is direct from UK (london).

You have a great country, great attitude and SPACE -lucky, lucky people - in your words - totally awesome! Thanks a lot Maddie

Sounds like a fun way to travel -- Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

If you are going back to ski at Lake Tahoe -- you should find a way to get Mammoth Lakes into the mix. The cornice runs at Mammoth rival anything you can find in the Alps and the snow conditions are really great. If you fly into Reno, you could explore more of Nevada. Virginia City is fun for kids of all ages. Now as to your questions -- Yes, LA is fine for kids as is San Diego. Plenty to do in both places. Lots of posts on this Forum about both -- use the search utility to check for some ideas.

Canoeing on the Big River near Mendocino is pretty great in the Spring -- and you might enjoy my favorite inn -- The Stanford Inn. From Tahoe, you could also drive or fly to Eureka and then go exploring the Redwood country. Here are some field reports from the area -- Avenue of the Giants and the Klamath River road.

    Happy Planning!
