  1. Default Iowa to somewhere this summer

Hey guys, I'm trying to plan a road trip this summer, a 4-5 day road trip from Des Moines Iowa to somewhere preferebly no more than 4 hours away. I was thinking maybe Chicago, Apple River Minnesota or somthing along the lines of that. Any tips on where to go would be extremely appreciated.

Unfortunately, 4 hours isn't really far enough from where you are coming from...I know...I live in Mpls. However, the Southeastern corner of MN is pretty cool...lots of camping. Mpls/St Paul has tons to do as well. You could easily vacation here. Souix Falls is boring, as is Grand Island.

Chicago is really fun...just depends on what you're looking for.

Default There are no boring places

    Welcome to the forum Subzero.

Let me start by correcting GottaGo, there are no boring places on a roadtrip. Take Sioux Falls for example, there are plenty of things to do in the area, and even more great people to meet along the way. I lived there for 5 years, and could list off an extensive week full of activites and still not stratch the surface of things to do.

Staying within just a few hours of Des Moines gives you a million things to do. If you want major cities, then Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and St. Louis are all easily within your reach. If you want outdoor activities, areas along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers provide endless opportunities. If you like Presidential History, the Libraries of Harry Truman, Herbert Hoover, and Abraham Lincoln are all within a few hours drive. Or if you like off the wall fun, You could visit a palace made of corn, a baseball field plowed into a corn field, or a museum dedicated to the history of treating the mentally insane.

That's just the tip of the iceberg, you name what you are interested in, and I guarentee you'll be able to find something within a few hours of driving.
