Somewhere in the West to Denver

I'm planning on seeing a friend in Denver, but I'd like to see a part of the country I have never seen--the Rockies. I thought it might be a good idea to fly into a major Western city (Salt Lake, Las Vegas, Los Angeles) and then rent a car to take to Denver. I'd like to see a few of the great American sites but also some tucked away parts of the country. I don't want to spend more than two to three days so Los Angeles probably wouldn't be wise....or would it? Anyone have any ideas? What sites are really worth seeing and what is just hype?

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! Well, how about flying to Denver and then using that location to explore the Rockies like the spokes on a wagon wheel?

It is a long two days of travel to reach Denver from LA, but if you do that run, you will get a chance to see one of my favorite interstate highways for scenic views in America -- I-70 in Utah.

I don't want to spend more than two to three days so Los Angeles probably wouldn't be wise....or would it?

You could spend a couple of months in LA and never run out of cool stuff to see and explore.
