  1. Default Seattle to LA - quick trip

We are planning a road trip from Seattle to LA with one stop. We will be travelling along I-5 and want to get the majority of the drive out of the way on the first day. We have done this drive before in one day (not fun), but this time we are going to break it up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a nice city to stop in that is off I-5 and not too far north of San Francisco?

    Default Sacramento/Lodi/Stockton

When I've done a similar run, I've never gotten farther south than the Sacramento/Lodi/Stockton areas before I've needed to stop for the night. This will get you roughly 2/3 of the way to LA the first day.

If you find you want to split it up more equally, Redding is about the 1/2-way point.

Wow, you drove 1150 miles in one day? That does sound pretty brutal.

Yes, I would stop in Davis -- college town with some nice motels.

I hate to admit, I've done the Seattle-LA trip more times than I can remember...

The usual stopping places coming south are in Weed, Yreka, Shasta or Redding. They're all about half way to LA, and the end of a long day's drive. Redding has the most hotels.

I too usually end up stopping in "Shasta Country" as well, either Redding or Yreka/Weed. It is really half way between and is usually where exaustion begins to make itself apparant.
