2 week Road Trip from NY to LA

My cousin and I have decided to talk a 2 week road trip from Ny to La, california. Him and his friend are 25 and I am 20 and we wanted to rent a car and just go with the least amount of planning as possible. However, I dont know where to start about looking for cheap rentals, or even sites to see, Chicago is definatly on our agenda but other than that we dont know where to visit. If anyone has ever taken a simliar trip could u please help me out on at least where to start?

Well, for starters, you can check out all the resources available to you on our RoadTrip Planning page. As for looking for the cheapest rentals, you can look at the rates available from most of the major companies through this site as well. Just be forewarned that if you plan to do any of the driving there will likely be a fairly hefty premium since you're under 25. Also, two weeks would make a great, relaxed one-way trip (another warning - this will most likely result in a hefty 'drop-off' charge on the rental), but if you plan to get to LA and back to NYC in two weeks, then pretty much all you'll have time for is the drive with very little opportunity for visiting things on the way.
