Denver to Washington DC

Am interested in driving from Denver to Washington DC, taking about 5-days. What's the best route?...

I don't know if this is the best route or simply the most direct, but you can simply hop on I-70 and take it all the way into Maryland until you will go south on 270 into DC. This is about 1675 miles. That would average about 335 miles per day. Very do-able.

Whether or not it's the best can only be determined by you. Does it take you past the things you want to see, for example?
