  1. Default CA TO MD in Sept 2006

Hello all - new forum member here!

Husband and I, along w/ 2 dogs and 2 ATV's will be taking a month long road trip from Palm Springs, CA to Baltimore, MD.

Plan thus far looks like this:

Palm Springs to Grand Canyon to Moab, UT to Marysvale, UT to Yellowstone, to Custer, SD to Sioux Falls, SD to Lake Superior, MN to MacKinaw City, MI to Niagara Falls to Paragon, PA to Baltimore.

ANY and all tips or advice would be greatly recommended. We plan to hit Zion Natl Park, Grand Tetons, Mt Rushmore & Badlands Natl Park along the way.

    Thanks in advance!

    Default Welcome!

Greetings, AprilJ24, and welcome to the forums!

I'm not quite sure what kind of tips you're seeking so I'll just address the dog issue. I hope you have some plans for them so they don't get over-heated in a vehicle. You're going to some places that get extremely hot, you know.

What kind of tips are you needing? Routes? Lodging? ATV places?

    Default Here and There

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

Sounds like a great adventure. Just a few tips. Be sure to check into all the resources available for off-road activities in National Recreation Areas, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands, and National Forests (NFS). These often have more such trails than the National Park system. Also look into the various state parks and recreation areas. Just a couple of examples:

    Utah ATV Trails
    Colorado ATV Trails

Also, keep in mind some of the off-the-main-road attractions that don't require ATVs, such as those reported on in this field report.

A couple of my favorite stops along the way that you didn't mention are Wind Cave National Park, Devil's Tower National Monument, and while you're in Baltimore, be sure to get to Annapolis and the Eastern Shore.

Mostly looking for info on must see's, decent/cheap resturants and legal riding trails.

    Thanks!

    Default A Few More 'Musts'

Just a few more of the things that I would consider "must sees" along your general route include Apostle Islands National Seashore, the lovely town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, and Letchworth State Park, NY. While you're in Baltimore, since you're interested in the outdoors, be sure to check out the many parks and wildlife management areas on the Eastern Shore, many with facilities for off-road vehicles.

    Default Northern ATV Trails

I don't have a lot of ATV experience, but I'm pretty sure there are quite a few ATV trails in the National Forest lands of Northern Wisconsin and Michigan's UP.

Another place that has an extensive ATV trail system is Marinette County, WI. I saw a lot of ATVs when I was up there on a waterfall tour last fall, and the area is really one of my favorites.

    Have a great trip!
