Things are getting downright weird on the highways and byways of Illinois. If its not the spectre of kangaroos invading from the north, or drunks trying to escape police on lawn tractors or, by jumping off bridges onto concrete, now we have this story to report.
There is the possibility that there have been Big Foot sightings in central Illinois. This past summer, Chris Vielhak, of Bloomington, thought he saw a large black creature dart behind his car and then he heard a slap on the back of his Mustang. He sped away, and later found five claw marks on the trunk.
This occurred near the very small town of Funks Grove by old Route 66. It is located between Bloomington-Normal and McLean, home of the Dixie Trucker's Home.
I've been through there many times, and it is heavily treed. Of course, this is where the Funk family gets and makes their most-excellent maple sirup (yes this is how you spell their syrup). I guess it is possible for a Big Foot to dwell there, but wouldn't one of the maple tree tappers have had an encounter before now?
This was reported in the Peoria Journal-Star of February 15, 2006.
He called the good folks from Searching for Big Foot, Inc. They came out and did some research but didn't find one. They had a four man team armed with a tranquilizer gun, infrared cameras and other items that might be helpful in catching one.
I'll will be VERY careful my next time through there, especially if it's at night. Now Route 66ers have something else to see, er, look for.
Keep on Down that Two Lane Highway, and DON'T let the Big Foot Bite. --RoadDog
