First Road Trip, no idea where to go (from NY)

I'd like to go on a roadtrip with my roommate during spring break (we have a week), but i'm outta ideas. I'd like it to be somewhere along the coast or middle states, no west coast. Sightseeing is cool and all that, dont wanna party this year. Any ideas?

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

Here are four general destinations in different directions and with different landscapes. You could head down the coast through the Delmarva Peninsula to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It should be starting to warm up there, but I don't think they draw a large Spring Break crowd. You could explore down the Appalachian Mountains doing some scenic driving, hiking and caving. You could see some of the Great Lakes, maybe looping around Lakes Erie and Huron. And finally, you could travel up through New England and maybe the Canadian Maritimes for a different kind of coast. All four areas will give you great chances to sightsee and the last two would even let you taste another culture.

Why not go down the NJ coast stopping at Atlantic City, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to Virginia Beach and down the coast to Myrtle Beach SC. Come back on the I95. The round trip is about 1400 miles ... 5 days getting there and two days to get back would make a week's trip..
