Default 4-6 week Honeymoon across the U.S.

    Hi everyone,

My fiancee and I would like to make our honeymoon be a 4-6 week trip across the country. We are planning to stick to a low budget and see as many attractions/parks/etc. as possible. We are also planning to stay in both motels and campgrounds, camping possibly in the popular national parks. We're from Connecticut and were thinking about heading across the northern states and come home by going across the southern states. Any tips/suggestions/itineraries from those of you who have done something like this before would be great!

    Default Once Around to Start

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

Actually, my very first transcontinental RoadTrip(s) were almost exactly what you're planning, only I did it in the opposite direction, from Maine. If you haven't done something like this before, you're in for a treat. Your outbound trip might generally follow I-90 with highlights of Niagara Falls, Badlands NP, Devil's Tower, and Yellowstone NP. Then down the west coast where the possibilities include Mt Ranier NP, Crater Lake NP, Redwoods, the coast itself, San Francisco and Big Sur. And finally back across the southwest and south on I-40 and I-81 with the chance to see Death Valley NP, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon NP, Mesa Verde NP, the Ozarks, Smoky Mountains NP and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's lots more to see and you'll have to decide what else you want to see, how far you're willing to stray from the major roads, and how you'll want to split your time between driving and sightseeing. It might be worthwhile for you and your fiancé to take the RoadTrip Comparability Quiz before you embark just to make sure you're on the same page.

Also check these tips for saving money on the road. You may have some difficulty in camping in some of the most popular national parks, they tend to get very busy in the summer. So look into nearby state parks as well. Most of all, relax and enjoy the journey and, of course, each other's company.

    Default Some Additions

I would try to schedule a drive through Glacier National Park on the Going to the Sun road as well as hitting the Cascades & Olympic National Park in Washington State.
