New York - New York (Two swedes, 1-29 july 2016)

Me and my wife will visit US during summer 2016, and make a roadtrip. We have been reading at this forum for a while and have recieved a lot of good advices! At the moment we have a first draft of our trip, so we thought that we could ask the members at this forum about some opinions about it.

Please, feel welcome to give us some advice about which roads we should use between our planned destinations (or if we should change any of the destinations) and if you know any point of interests along the way. We have quite good knowledge about what to do in the cities, but not so much about good stops along the road.

We are aware of that we have planned for quite short stays in the cities. But we want to visit a lot of different places (big cities, small towns, rural area, sea villages) and will enjoy the time in the car.

Since this trip is still a ways off, my first thought is do you have any maps of the area you plan to travel? Can you get good detailed maps locally. If not, I suggest you invest in a Rand McNally Road Atlas, which is available at the RTA store at the bottom of this page. If you order it now, you will have it in a couple of weeks.

The Rand McNally is probably the most used in North America. It's maps are detailed, not only with roads and cities but many of the attractions along the way. It will also show you the details of the roads, from high speed interstates to local and back roads. Scenic roads are also highlighted.

You should be able to choose your routes and which roads to take depending on time available and your interests.

Paper maps are invaluable during the planning stage and essential when on the road.
