we want to travel from SW Virginia (outside of Roanoke) to LA/Baja Mex. and back in Two Months Via
Roanoke,Charlotte,Wilmington,Charleston,Atlanta,Pa nama City,New Orleans,Baton Rouge,Dallas,Pheonix,Baja,LasVegas,Salt Lake/Denver, and back (need cities between Denver and Nashville that are interesting)through Nashville to Roanoke. This is 8 seniors, exploring America (we're planning on 3 cars)!
Basically you are taking a northerly route and southerly route. Southern your taking I-10, and northern you are taking I-20. Good luck and have fun.
I need to know approx. how long and what kinda $ we need. Is three cars too many?
I would suggest taking one or two mini-vans instead of three cars.
My two friends and I are taking a mini-van on our road trip.
It may not be as attractive, but there will be much more room for us and our luggage... as well as being much more comfortable. I just hope we can find one with a CD player! :D

I am not very keen on this whole roadtrip thing. What do your parents have to say in this matter? I really hope it is ok with them. If you get lost your parents would be heartbroken. Are you absolutely sure about this?
I agree that you should only take 2 vans. It would be a lot more comfortable. It would also greatly cut down on the cost of the whole thing.
yeah, we've got the ok. Its before we go to college. I'm going to UNCW and My Friends (most) to UVA. we're planning before we need to pack and go off. We've had our basic route and have been saving since our Sophmore year!! We might not be able to find mini vans and we're trying to use the cars we have. I've got a ford sport track. Jeff has a Jeep Cherokee and Justin a Camry.
WHEN I READ THIS I FIRST THOUGHT SENIORS MEANT OLDER PEOPLE I GOT A LAUGH AT THE ADVICE WARNINGS REGUARDING PARENTS. I COULDNT AGREE DO IT NOW YOU WILL LOVE IT. YPU FOLKS MIGHT CONSIDER NOT FOLLOWING EACH OTHER IN THESE CARS BUT MEETING AT AGREED LOCATIONS AT THE END OF THE DAY THIS WOULD GIVE EVERYONE A SEPERATE ADVENTURE EACH DAY TO TALK ABOUT. If you are only seniors you cant rent a van, you have to be 25 in florida as far as I know and it is probably the same in other states.
That is a really good idea. With 8 people it would be hard to agree on where to go, maybe you should split up and sent each car to a certain place and where people wnat to go they will go in that car.

Our School lets out around june 2nd. We want to know if we could be back by August.
Yes. The ones who get to make the decision about where you are going and for how long are you. You can certainly return to your starting point by August -- But you will not see everything you have outlined in the time frame posed by your mesages.

If you really want to drive Baja,I can give you lots of tips as I have done the whole thing by Mexican bus to Cabo and by car numerous times.As far as the rest of your trip,my wife and I just completed a 7000 mile cross country trip in a 78 Vette.(including South Boston,Va)We always negotiated our trip plan each day and agreed on the route.I just can not imagine 8 people doing the same.Two mini-vans would help reduce the negotiations,and give you plenty of space,etc.Good luck,Rich in San Diego.
With 8 folks on aboard, the daily discussion about the route could take much too long. I would recommend letting one person each day be the "Imperial Commander" and whatever route she/he decides on will be the direction of the day. Such a policy could lead to a rather odd final plan -- but that is the nature of roadtrippin'
And your readers still want the "goods" found on your recent 7000+ mile roadtrip!

IT IS NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE PEOPLE BACK OUT AT THE LAST MINUTE IF YOU ARE CONVINCED YOU ARE GOING, PICK A DATE AND A TIME AND LIVE BY IT.
