"Where in North America is this?" Section VI
This is the Sixth section of a popular mind puzzle first brought to the membership by member Quebec Gen.
General Rules of the "Where in North America is this?" Game
1) Anyone can play -- just follow along and test your mettle about places found in North America.
2) You'll need to be a registered member of this Forum if you want to contribute your own photographs and/or participate in the discussion for each place.
3) You will need to have the ownership or usage rights to any photo that you post on this forum, as per the terms & conditions of Federal copyright law. If you post a photo that you do not own the rights to, Forum Management reserves the right to remove it. As a matter of practical use, we would expect that you would be posting only those photos that you or a close family member have taken.
4) Every photo of a mystery place needs to be unique in some way -- And there should be "visual clues" in the photo to enable us to solve where the mystery location is...

What is this building, and where is it.
I will say that this is not it's original location, and the things around it would not have been in it's original local.
One of the Japanese Interment Camps Buildings?
Not sure of the location -- but the it looks like it could have been at one of the Japanese Internment locations in the midwest maybe? Or maybe from Camp Amache in Colorado along US-50?
Here's another photo of the same location...

Introducing a sample of a new section...
Jerry Kendrick, who has contributed a number of photographs of murals and marvels over the years, has a private photo collection of "named roadside rocks" around the USA. We'll be adding a new section of Marvels based upon some of his collection. To get things started, consider this one:

Where is this? What is the name of that island?
This one looks tougher to me.....
Another one from the upcoming "Roadside Rocks" feature...

Where is this? What's this rock called?
Hint #2 The photographer has stayed there

This should take only a careful look at the picture...
In what city is this building located?

The person posting needs to know where it's from
I've made a couple of boo-boos when I didn't know the exact location of one of the mystery places I posted -- but the the rules of this game require that the poster has the intent of posting in good faith.
I did some looking around for the likely source of this photo -- but there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of dog walk parks, many with fire hydrants, and so without some clues or something unique about this location -- If you can provide us with a clue or two, that would be appreciated.

Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC!
The famous Stanley Park totem poles are the work of various North-west Coast Indian tribes. The oldest erected here were acquired by the city in 1912. Also worth seeing is the more than 100 year-old Nootka canoe.
The Stanley Park totem poles are located near Brockton Oval, just a short distance from the seawall. An interpretive centre stands near the totem polls, along with a give shop. The totem poles are well labelled with accompanying histories and stories. read more here...
Beautiful photo capture -- those colors are awesome!

Reaching deep into my archives.....
If you know the early history of RTA, you'll spot a real clue as to the age of this photo and maybe even the location....

Where is this? Do you know what event is being wrapped here?

I bet this one goes fast!
That was my immediate thought too....
But then the scale doesn't look right....
North Window and Linda

Not Delicate or Turret either, and doesn't look like any of my shots from Devil's Garden trail, so maybe South Window?
Hmmm. In looking again, I'm not sure whether the shot above is North or South window... in any event they both appear larger than Mark's photo.
Well, now you've got me wondering too....
I thought it WAS the North Window, but I've looked at some shots of Turret and it's possible the shape is better --but I don't remember walking to Turret. In the end, Twilight's double image of North and South confirms my memory -- (I think) it is the North Window....
Thanks guys! (You've reminded me again, how feeble my memory is...) But great shots from your collections!
Mark
Definitely not Turret; it IS a "Window"
I think my choice of lens and angle distorted the relative sizes in my shot.
Opening of Turret Arch is all wrong:

Thanks for the confirmation shots!
I like that "Masquerade Arch".
Here's a perfect example to illustrate....

Dan Sedenquist(the driver) is not thrilled by my choice of routes herein...
And I know unless you're as stupid as I am, you've probably never seen that shot...
So, here's a more common view of that place:

Where is this?
The South shall rise again!
I pulled up my shot of The Spectacles from Turret:

This seems to be taken from the same angle as Twilight's.
If I read my map correctly, the arch to the left is North, where I shot Linda, and the arch to the right is South, which looks to me more like where Megan's shot was taken.
As for the current puzzle; Cottonwood Canyon Road?
I had plans to take this road, but then "Shafer Trail" happened and I lost off-highway privileges for the remainder of the trip.
yeah, but I still think it's North.
I think we're in agreement about which one is which -- but I still think it's North.

Nope, wrong state....this one is a 1/2 day trip from the RTA offices...
