Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! This is a very popular road trip in the summer months. When is your trip planned for? One thing you should be aware of is that is usually foggy and cool along the coast from June to August. Here are some other posts about this route.Quote:

Thanks
Ganesh
The link the Editor gave you in his post lists many great things to see and do on the coastal trip. You might check it out. (See above)
As for the fog and coolness....remember, our Editor lives in Las Vegas. What he thinks of as cool may not be what you and I think of as cool if you're from Seattle! LOL I just spent several hours at the beaches in Washington over the last weekend and it was warm and sunny....I was totally fine in shorts and a t-shirt...and I've got the tan to prove it!
True, there is usually fog on the coast in the warmer months but, at times, this will actually make things quite warm and, sometimes, a bit muggy as the cover keeps the heat in. But the fog rarely lasts past noon so you can look forward to sunny afternoons.
Don't be surprised if you get some rain. I hope you escape it while traveling but be prepared for it because, in the spring, you will be lucky to not get some for at least part of your trip. The rains typically come periodically until about The 4th of July.
Very funny. Just pack a sweater -- it will be chillier than Seattle in the summer!Quote:

Great example of why local intel always trumps out-of-state-memories. Thanks for the come-back!Quote:

Ganesh,
How long do you intend to allocate for your trip. 26th is not far off! Guess, planning late has its own adventure to it :)
Judy and Mark would the right people to guide you in that area. With a little more information as to your interests(hikes, sight-seeing, adventure trips, redwoods etc), camping or motels? any kids? I am sure you will get more information than you actually need.
I stay in bay area; I may not be around that time here, but if I can be of any help, let me know.
Also, let us know what you have seen. Portland, OR/CA coast would be everyone's first choice :)
Judy,
I did hear abt the heat in WA. It not only made it to Seattle newspapers, but also the national weather service :-)
I am sure you would have enjoyed it though.
Mark,
Is Vegas really like a bbq?
:-)
cool
I love that heat -- 113 to 118 is my kind of fun day. Swimming at midnight, doesn't get better than that! All that heat and snow in the winter.Quote:

Here is a view from the lodge near the turn-off for the ski area. Most Californians think of Las Vegas as close to Los Angeles or Phoenix in terms of weather and temps -- but we are much farther to the north -- almost to the "level" of Fresno.

Vegas is at an elevation? I didn't know that at all. I did think it to be like LA(even worser, actually), but this is cool.
We had been there in 2003 Dec and the weather was perfect. We drove back home in the night and I remember the no. of stars I saw(outside the city, of course)...It was amazing!
When we planned a trip there, I really didn't wanna go. Somehow, as everyone thinks, I thought Vegas is all about casinos.
All the while I was there, I had nothing but fun.
I really wanna go there sometime, we seem to be pushing it aside as we've already seen it and other places take its place.
Vegas is magic.
:)
Here at the office our elevation is ~2200 feet, but the west end of city is closer to 2700 feet. You ought to read some of Megan's essays about living here....Quote:
