I'm definitely a jaunt-er. I love to just get out there and have some fun-- see some new places, learn some new things, eat some good food. I like to plan things out before I go, but then rely on informed sponteneity when I'm on the road-- seredipity can be wonderful to road trippers!
Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!
You sound like you've been around a couple of interesting blocks, and we look forward to your continued involvement and advice. By the way, I share your philosophy of "informed spontaneity".

When your very first roadtrip consists of travelling 12,500 miles to touch the lower 48 states in less than 30 days, it's just a tad obvious which type you are.
I'm also guilty as charged of collecting all the state magnets, national park shotglasses, and landmark replicas that I've been to, not to mention postcards of all shapes and sizes to complement them (which makes for a very unorganized collection indeed, not to mention a messy room).
Pending goals are all 50 state capitals (seen maybe 5) and all 54 national parks (been to 14). Also anything geographical such as highest/lowest points (been to Badwater Basin at -282ft elev, but don't ask me to go climbing Mt. McKinley; I'll just make sure I see it) or maybe the exact center of the US (2 places, depending if you count AK and HI). Stuff like that.
The biggest "challenge" for some, probably, is managing to get out of the office so you can actually make time to pull this stuff off.
Joey,
I think my ultimate quest/challenge would be one of:
1) soak in all of the known hot springs in the west, or
2) go to every county seat in America. Some states like Texas have 254 counties! Whereas Oregon only has 36.
On my all-time list, (actually I don't have such a list, but I might start one...) I think I have been to about 350 thus far....
Check out this Wikipedia page! -- I have a long ways to go!

Hi hmsr and Welcome to R.T.A.
Mmm , roadtripping in the Mustang, nice !
Make sure you have a good look around the forums and road trip planning pages, they are full of info from other like minded trippers. If you have any questions regarding your trip be sure to post a thread in the relevant forum and ask away.

I am currently working on a couple of quests.
1. Visit every state. The only two I haven't visited are Alaska and Hawaii..
2. Visit every National Park and National Monument that is a day's drive (600 miles) or less from Denver.
I completed my 50 state quest in February. The lower 48 have all been in my own vehicle, and have set foot in all of them too. Alaska and Hawaii were both in rentals.
