That's what I was talking about
Actually, that page shows the dates that the specified road passes were closed for the winter closures. What's remarkable about this year, is that's I've never seen Ebbets close when it wasn't also the winter season closure.
In any case, were in the record books now -- I don't remember any closing for the season for Tioga this late in December! We passed the latest former closing today!

One more job for the Sheriff

Oh boy! That's something Sheriff Dave will have to rule on!
A clear and present chance for misfeasance
Ya know, it is possible to recall sheriffs....for misfeasance (just kidding).
Not like a normal Christmas day in Oz!
That does sound like a memorable Christmas. Glad you're OK.

Nope, not even a wet Christmas!
Look at this view taken at 1:30 pm PST on Christmas Day:

No White Christmas -- less then 1%!
And yesterday less the 1% of the population of the continental USA saw any falling snowflakes. The only place with recorded snowfall was around the Great Lakes and most of that was "lake effect snow". A very dry day!
Just to contrast the photo from December 25, 2011 with this one, taken January 13, 2011...

It will certainly be a first-time for a RTA RoadTrip Enthusiast!

I just can't imagine that could have happened -- One day in November a couple of years ago, I drove Sonora, Ebbetts and Monitor in one day. That was very, very cool.

I wish I could make it !!
It's looking good so far George !
There are no hazardous weather warnings so far through that period, with highs on Saturday of 40-45F and mostly sunny up at 9000ft. That'll be in the low 50's as you make your way down, Wow !
Starting out from Carson should give that sun some time to work it's magic on any overnight ice that may have formed on the road.
Have a great trip !
Dave.
I've concluded it's all my fault
I asked for a weather station for Christmas, one with a wind and a rain gauge.
Since I expressed that desire (and installed the one Santa brought me); no rain, and next to no wind.
Must be me.
With that, I'm going to select March 21, 2012 (3:21pm) as my next guess. That should put it far enough out that my weather station will be out of warrantee if it turns out the rain gauge doesn't work.
Meanwhile, where did I put those bricks that used to sit in the toilet tanks?
March -- Lions and Tigers, Oh my!
Bricks in the toilet is only a precursor. Since I'm spending a good deal of time in Los Angeles at the moment, I'm pretty appalled with the complete lack of water conservation on the part of the people who live here. In Las Vegas, we've been on mandatory water rationing for over a decade. About 95% of the water that is wasted here by local Angelenos is piped here from Nevada and northern California.
March 21st eh? Wow, I wonder if we ever had a year where it never closed?
