I'm temporarily hamstrung...
In the middle of a laptop switch, which includes going from XP to W7... and I've lost track of my Dreamweaver settings so I'm not able to upload new photos. That said, here's one up moved up a while back but never used.
Where is this, and what are all these people doing?

Dreamweaver problem fixed...
... so here's another one to chew on; where is this?

Concert Venue and Greatk Lakes Lighthouse?
A rock-n-roll concert someplace -- except for the trees, it could almost be a return to Woodstock and that looks like one of The great lakes lighthouses.... but... I know, nothing is that easy....

WestFest -- Golden Gate Park
Don, that was a helpful clue!
Concert venue photo was probably taken at the Speedway Meadows -- which is part of Golden Gate Park. WestFest held a 40th anniversary party/art event/musical tribute last year. Here are some photos....
But I don't know which year you attended...
...and yeah, the rest of the clue isn't much help -- I've no idea where you were last week!
Mark
Wow: so close, and yet wrong
#1: it IS in Golden Gate Park, but not Speedway Meadow. This is the end of an annual event that has been going on for decades, and involves tens of thousands of participants. It is an "only in San Francisco" kind of event.
#2: not Texas, but definitely south; look south of the 28th parallel. And the location is famed for something unique that involves the beaches.
also... as I hinted above, while there will be music, this is not really a concert event; more like a mini-concert at the end of an event.
Does it involve running, jogging, walking, dying....?
How about the San Francisco marathon or "Bay to Breakers" race?

I do believe you are correct
Sanibel Island, a barrier island off the coast of Ft. Myers, in the Gulf of Mexico. Along with its sister island to the north, Captiva, is a sheller's paradise.
Due to prevailing currents and wind, and the configuration of the sea bottom, thousands of shells wash up on the beaches in this area with every tide.
Here's a look at one particularly shell-stocked portion of the beach:

Here's one that skirts the rules....
One of these locations is appropriate for this thread, the other is not. Identify the one that is, and where it is. For extra credit, tell me why the other location isn't kosher (for this game).

I thought I'd toss in an "easy" one
Don,
I don't even know where to start on your two geo-puzzles... So, for a easier one...(for an interlude)...

Where is this? When was it built?
As in EPCOT, a half-day drive from Sanibel?
That would be yes.
Here's Linda trying on a fez on the streets of Morroco, EPCOT.

You can see that as well as wearing the traditional fez, she is holding the traditional white plastic Disney raincoat.
Where else can you have beer in England, wine in France, carry that wine to Morocco (look closely at photo), beer (with lunch) in Germany, and tequila in Mexico: all in the space of 3-4 hours?
Getting things rolling again
Not sure why things have ground to a halt over the last few days but let's see if we can get things moving again.
So, anyone know where this prehistoric attraction lives?

The first thing I thought of was something in the Queets rain forest in Washington -- but it wasn't there -- but I did find the reference and a confirming photo on the Roadside America site. This rather amazing garden is located in Port Arthur, Oregon. Read this field report!
Peter, nice work with the new puzzle!

Wow, what a gorgeous photo
Software is acting peculiar today -- but what a gorgeous photo -- Kestrel! It has the distinction of starting the 11th such puzzle feature on this site -- and can be seen here....
* SW USA -- and can just barely remember seeing something like this -- but I don't remember where....
