Yeah, big, wet storm bearing down on the entire west coast of the USA.
I think this will do it.

At about 4:00 pm today, I saw a very light dusting of snow on top of Half Dome -- nothing real significant looking thus far.

The Bay area is getting quite a pounding (my cousin was out of power last night), and down here on the other end of the state, we're getting some rain too. My husband was just thinking about turning the sprinkler system back on, until he looked out the window this morning. So things are looking "up" for the snow-watchers!

They just closed Ebbetts Pass for the winter.
Can you say "White Christmas"?

A nice couple of captures from the Sentinnel webcam Mark ! There is more snow due Monday through to Wednesday and you would think it's just a matter of 'when' they call it closed for the season. On the official site Glacier Point road is listed as open ! (?) Thanks to this weeks snow, Yosemite's Badger Pass Ski area officially opens today.

Best example of a "lowering sky" -- I've seen in a while:

For those who aren't as aware of the Hump as the regulars -- it is that pile of snow in the lower right hand corner of the photo above.
Here is the same hump, captured on January 13, 2010:

The Yosemite site has now confirmed that the pass closed for the season on November 13. Unfortunately we have no winners or DCTPP's [darn close] to announce this season as the nearest we got was from[ Midwest] Michael who predicted November 21.
So that's it for the winter 2014 competition folks ! Watch out for the start of the 2015 Spring opening competition and your chance to win a tank of gas and possibly more. All that's left for me to say is Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to all.
Dave.
Quite the collusion: Mother Nature and the NPS!
Thanks again for your good work this season

Caltrans hasn't confirmed yet - but they do show Ebbetts and Sonora closed for the winter.
This is one of those days, it would be nice to be sitting by the roaring fire at the Ahwahnee Hotel in the Yosemite Valley!

Caltrans now says it's closed for the winter, but their date is 12/19.
I guess they have a slightly different take on when it actually closed to traffic[?] but as mentioned in the rules at the start of this thread, the recognised closing date for this comp is the one stated by the Yosemite officials. Although it makes little difference with this years contest as no one was close.
Dave.
A perfect day for the Winter Solstice (Hump is already gone...)
