It just seems so many people have been asking this question lately. I hadn't thought about people leasing their vehicles since I've never done that. In that case, a rental certainly makes sense.
Even weighing the cost of maintenance/tires/etc., I just really like driving my own car. To me, it's worth it. But, yeah, if I had a major breakdown, then having a rental car company to deal with that issue so I could just move to another car and get back on the road.....well, in that case, this would be a good option.
These are just things to consider that I had never thought about before. Interesting discussion.
Unlimited Miles and the Dodo
One thing that I have noticed in my recent forays online to rent cars is that rental companies are aware of the practice of using their cars for high mileage trips and are beginning to ask for the hometown of the customer. If it's the same as (or even close to) the town where the car will be picked up, then unlimited mileage will NOT be offered. It's not all companies and not all the time, but it seems to me that it is becoming more prevalent. Just another thing to be careful of when setting up for a RoadTrip.
