nice thing about the train is if you can get connecting rooms with 4 beds for a reasonable price, and you get to see the countryside much better than from the road.
Again I re-iterate, I truly think you'd have the best time on the train. Plus, if you want to explore New England, they have a pretty decent public transportation system. Take your new sleeper to a NASCAR race one weekend.
The trip went great...the Smokies are absolutely georgous, although I did find Gatlinburg a bit tacky and expensive, we took a wrong turn and travelled along I40 for a bit, but it was worth it it must be the most scenic section of interstate I have seen so far...Washington was nice enough, but the highlight has to be New York itself ... tried to stay at Liberty Harbor RV park, but it was full...so we just drove around for a bit and found a great place in west NYC (sheraton suites) a short ferry from the midtown, with great views of the city.
I found the city amazing and the people very friendly and polite (not what I was expecting) the city and central park are very clean, it is an expensive place to visit , but we loved every minute of it..a must visit place is a diner on Times Square where the staff get up an sing, it's called Star someting or other and it is about a hundred yards up from toyrus, it was the best moment of the trip when the waitress sang to and totally embarrassed my oldest son....thanks for all your help and advice ....Richard
