Maker's Mark is the one we hoped to hit, but I wouldn't mind going to a much smaller distillery that still has tours. I have this fantastical idea of being the only ones on a tour given to us by the master distillery him/herself. Friends of mine visited a small brewery a while back and when he walked in he asked, "Where's the tour?" The brewmaster told him, "You're it," and my friend got a personalized visit through the production.
Thanks again for your suggestions! I feel much more confident about my choice now. Thanks!

Bump to the top.
I'm trying to pick out a good scenic/fun drive between, say, Winchester, VA and Lexington, KY. That will put us through West Virginia, which we loved last year; WV was very scenic. The coal operations were neat to dry past.
Looking at the map, I see WV-19, WV 33, but I don't know anything about them. There's also WV-60 (very twisty road!), WV-219 and I-64 in the souther part of WV.
Any suggestions? After we get to KY, the rest of the legs of our trip are pretty much 3-5 hours each, so we can afford more time to explore I think.
So we have:
Maker's Mark distillery
still looking for ideas for Nashville
Civil Rights Museum and Graceland in Memphis
Clinton Presidential Museum in Little Rock
The Gateway Arch, STL vs. BOS in St. Louis.

West from Winchester, VA
A number of years ago, we crossed West Virginia on WV-55 and US-33. The eastern portions (WV-55) were quite nice in an understated sort of way. It's classic two-lane black top through the Appalachians, most of it in national forest. The western portions (US-33) are a bit more built up and 4 lane. I have the impression from somewhere that Bob Byrd has designs on this general route and wants to turn it all into a continuation of I-66, so it may not be around forever. I don't remember anything spectacular on the drive, but I do remember it as being quite enjoyable, and we did find a nice place to eat in Petersburg. This sounds like what you're looking for and it does tie in to I-79 to I-64 in western WV.
Hope this helps.

Memphis
If you're going to Memphis, definately check out Beale Street. It's a great area for night life. Great live blues. Go to B B Kings. Really a fun area.

Buck and Allie,
Thanks for the suggestions! The more the better! I think. I hope the number of choices doesn't make the decisions more difficult :)

Definitely do the 'Freedom Trail'. Boston is known for these historic sites and it'll be a shame if you don't see these while you're in the area. I would assume this trip was completed a long time ago as this thread is 4 years old.
