This is a great post, tons of suggestions and no waiting.
I found this site last night, and just now came by to ask people for Roadtrip music suggestions because I felt like making a mix CD to bide time untill my next trip. Anyway, here's four more songs.
Phantom Planet - "California"
Jo Dee Messina - "Heads Carolina, Tails California"
Eve 6 - "Open Road Song"
Terri Clark - "I wanna do it all"
You forgot "East Bound and Down" (theme from Smokey and the Bandit), a version is availble that was done by Tonic and includes a clip at the end by "Dale Gribble" from King of the Hill.
Quick question. Those songs seem to be cool. Is there a way I can just download the complete compilation in one shot :)?
Surely you'd want stuff like :
"Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas"
and
"Highway to Hell and Back in Black by AC/DC"
as well as stuff like
"Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir by Led Zeppelin"
For me and my friends, anything that is on our iPod will be out soundtrack.
Lol...Although I will be playing "Holiday Road"...Theme from the Vacation movies.
Lol...
The real amusing thing here is that when this thread was created, the ipod was in its infancy and the itunes store had only been open for a few months!
I like to (when I remember) start each road trip with the opening lines of Randy Newman's "I love LA"... the part right after the spoken intro; it goes:
Rollin' down the Imperial Highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side
Santa Ana wind blowin' hot from the north
And we was born to ride
Roll down the window, put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys, baby
Don't let the music stop
We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more
Regina Spector "Folding Chair" "Let's get a silver bullet trailer, and have a baby boy! I'll safety pin his clothes all cool and you'll graffiti up his toys. I got a perfect body, but sometime I forget. I've got a perfect body cause my eyelashes catch my sweat. yes they do, they do-oh-ooh-ooo"
Matt and Kim "Daylight"
Jill Scott "Golden"
Enya various, "Anywhere is" "Only if you want to" many more
George Winston, I love him, all stuff...
Okay back on the "Beat"
Edward and the Magnetic Zero's "Janglin"
Tilly and the Wall "Beat Control"
Natasha B. "Unwritten"
Fiest "Mushaboom"
Jack Johnson.. one of my heros.. so like whatever from him.. and another good style is Bare naked ladies... okay maybe because both of those dudes do kids songs and people with kids need some good, not mind heavy all the time tunes.
That is all I can think of not mentioned above.. I love Pandora, just start exploring artists for free! One big beauty of the smart phones!!! I looooove Pandora.. I would even up grade..
As for the downloading all in one shot, yeah, that would be ping.. I have made one list but not sure how to share it.. besides.. it cost so much! I like to do my tunes in pieces.. I also like to use Pandora to get a feel before I buy.
I think road trip soundtracks differ from person to person. Some songs might trigger something within one person, but might bore another.
Personally, I adjust my soundtrack depending on who I'm traveling with. If I'm on the road with mom I mostly include commercialized Billboard songs. If it's my best friend I'm hitting it with I'll put in some mellow country music and singer-songwriter stuff.
Overall, for me, I imagine myself in a convertable at around 7 PM when the sun's setting and you look forward to showering, dressing up and going to dinner. If the song works for that; it's going on the list.
But, all in all, the songs mentioned in this thread sound pretty damn good. :D
