All great suggestions -- but getting to Mt. St. Helens (lots of road blocks) would be a little tricky right now.

Yeah, shortly after writing that I turned on the news. Wow! I had no idea that the very small blast the other day had made the situation escalate. I really thought that would be the end of things for awhile.

I was last up there in mid-August. Things were pretty much same-o, same-o then. Not so anymore!!

How long are you planning your trip for? I will be taking a similar one in August and I'm wondering a general time frame.
