Eaton Fire in Pasadena, California

This was 11 am yesterday on the Hughes fire. Those of us interested in fire management were certain that homes were going to burn... But last night fire ops succeeded in pushing the fire past the homes and today they stopped all fires!

This is today -- Not a single home was lost.

Truly amazing effort to put this fire out.

Kudos to all fire personnel. Truly an awesome result!

That's great news coming out of an awful situation. There must of been a HUGE collective sigh of relief from those homeowners and all involved.

Yes, it was a perfect attack on a growing fire.

Air Tankers dropped retardant all day long, building a “catcher’s mitt” along a prominent ridge, creating a miles-long line. Crews followed up along with dozers, punched in line, and burned off roads to cut the fire off.

One of the properties threatened was a "Honor Camp" -- which is a lower-threat prison and the fire crews burned around the facility and "pushed" the fire past the property.

There was 100-acre spot fire yesterday morning that put up some smoke but five large air tankers dropped on it plus heavy helicopter work and it was basically done.

There were four more fires that kept crews and aircraft zipping back and forth across LA -- but none caused any significant damage.

There were more down in San Diego County, as well. One is in the Otay Wilderness Area (near the border with Baja California) which was growing quickly last I noted. So far, my old CA stomping grounds has been safe, but you never know.

January 26th at 0754 am. I watched several skiers yesterday afternoon skiiing in near-white-out conditions.

About an hour from downtown and currently 25 degrees F.

It's not even that individual frame. Rather the fact that you can scroll for block upon block upon block. And then shift yourself across to the coast and do it all again. Mad.

In the 2 frames you can see some of the new property's on the Oak Grove of Altadena burnt to the ground. On street view they were still under construction during May 2024. When you zoom in there are 5 properties seemingly untouched, (3 on N Raymond Ave) I presume they must of had there own fire systems or the 5 owners put up a good joint effort to hold the flames back. I see a few more that have survived the devastation around them.
