Mt. Rushmore to Jackson, Wyoming

On June 30, we will be starting our trip by flying to Salt Lake City. We are due to arrive at 10:30am. I am planning to just drive to Logan, UT and spend the night there, but am now thinking that it might be better to go to perhaps Lava Hot Springs or even all the way to Jackson. I didn't want to overdo it the first day, so that's why I was thinking to just go to Logan.

On July 1st, we will be staying at Colter Bay Village. So, it may also be better to get to the Jackson area sooner so July 1st we can spend doing a hike/exploring the Tetons.

What would you all recommend?

You don't say where you are flying into SLC from, so you need to consider how long you would have been up for that day to travel to the airport, in time for check in etc etc. With minimum delays, it could be pushing towards midday by the time you have got your luggage and collected the rental car. Then to Jackson, you can expect a minimum of a 5 hour drive. That could start to look like you may be over doing it a bit more than you had hoped, but it's doable depending on those other factors. Maybe the Lava Hot Springs area might suit you better, have a bit of time to relax before (and after) dinner and feel fresh the following day.
