A few ideas.
In that case some places you may find interesting heading across Death valley would be Badwater basin, Artists drive, Zabriske point, Mesquite flat sand dunes and Old Father Crowley viewpoint. These are all close to the towns of Furnace creek, Stovepipe Wells and Panamint Springs and quite close to the road. (It will be hot, so pack snacks and plenty of water!) On US395 out of DV is the town of Lone Pine which you could consider for an overnight stop. If you did, you might enjoy a trip into the Alabama hills on Movie flat road (popular filming location) in the evening. Lots of red rock formations, including Mobius arch with views of Mt Whitney, and sky's permitting, a truly amazing dark night sky!! In one day you could of stood in the lowest spot in the USA (Badwater basin) and looked up at the highest mountain in the lower 48, Mt Whitney!
If you head north on US395 you will eventually come to Lee Vining and CA120 that heads across the Sierra Nevada into Yosemite NP, one of the most photographic of National parks! Before that you could visit Bodie ghost town, possibly stay the night in town as you will want to allow plenty of time to drive CA120 (Tioga pass) and take in the views. Yosemite valley is full of wonder and the waterfalls will be flowing strong! Spending a night or 2 there would also give you the opportunity to drive up to Glacier point. Spectacular!!
If Tioga pass was still closed, or you prefer, you can go around the southern end of the Sierra's via Lake Isabella, and through Sequoia NP and enter Yosemite valley from the south.
For travel, check with the National park service website for road conditions and if you require entry permits.
