Prepare to divert your planned routing on I-70. Although the mountain slides might be repaired before mid-August it could very easily happen again. Diverting via Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (mentioned above) is a good option for a layover and stretching of the legs. From there you can do a windshield tour and short hike in Arches NP.

thank you!
yes, I am aware of this road blocks.
The truck rent (with trailer for my car) would have been much more expensive than the UBox, and the mileage of this UHaul trucks is horrible in comparison to my car... the ecoboost is great for long distances! For me it turned out the better solution to drive my own car and send the stuff there

My nephew rented the biggest U-Haul truck to do a cross country move. It had a Ford V-10. Gas mileage was horrible - about 5 mpg. You are better off renting a Penske with a diesel. U-Haul doesn't rent diesels.

Bryce canyon.
One tip for visiting Bryce canyon with limited time is to head straight to the far end of the canyon and then stop at all the viewpoints on the way back up. This will put them all on your side of the road which means you won't have to constantly cross the traffic when parking and leaving.
