Maybe you have a lot more research to do. As Buck points out you cannot just go where you want to go, do what you want to do. It could benefit you to read every single word on the national parks- State parks- and BLM websites, and follow every link. There's a lot of information there.

Yes, you can park the car and hike in to camp with a permit. However, consider that you need all the appropriate equipment. It is not something you can treat as car camping, and it is normally several miles from where you have left the car. This is for serious naturalists and hikers who have the right clothing and equipment, and who know how to treat and behave in the presence of wildlife. The permits are to strictly control the numbers, where they go, their preparedness and backcountry skills. It is not for the average tourist.

I apologise if what I said gave you the impression that we are a bunch of hooligans looking to break the law at every opportunity. The truth is we are just dying to soak ourselves waist deep in verdurous nature after living in barren Singapore for so long.

This is the video that inspired the trip and we thought it is going to be incredible if we could sleep right at the spots we saw. That's it.

I guess I will crawl through all the park websites like Lifey suggested and work something out.

From that video I get the impression that they are organised activities. Do some searching and I am sure you will be able to book into any of them, at the relevant parks.

Where these videos are shot is not where the camping spots are. These folk probably all spent the night a good ways away from the spot where you see them walking, even the visit at sunrise.

That video was probably shot in summer. You do realize that March is mid winter in the US? Utahas parks are at higher elevations. The higher, the colder. It will be freezing cold and snow covered in most of Utah. Are you prepared for sub zero winter camping?

On the other hand, Death Valley would be a great area for winter because parts of it are below sea level.

Noting the potential for cold, especially while camping, in March is certainly a valid thing to point out, although I think you might be overstating the concerns a bit. I wouldn't call March "mid-winter" and it's really not that likely to see snow cover in most of Utah at that time of year. (That's not to say it can't snow, either, of course, but any snow is likely going to melt relatively quickly.)

The average high temperature in March for places like Moab and Zion National Park are in the 60's (15C), and the average lows are a little above freezing. Things will be colder in higher elevation areas, especially Bryce Canyon, which is at around 8000 feet. A big thing to remember is that in the desert, when the sun goes down, the temperatures drop off very rapidly.

Point being, if you are going to be camping, especially in a tent, but even inside a van like an Escape van which will provide very little insulation, you'll need to be prepared with heavy duty, cold weather camping gear.
