Thanks mate!
That's what I think I might be able to do to improve the plan according to your notes.
1. I get out of El paso after dinner time and try to sleep right next to Guadalupe Mt. I will start my day there early by lunch time (1pm) will start driving towards Austin. I think by that standard I can be in Austin by 10PM. It makes a 550 miles drive that day (straight), which isn't easy but doable.
2. I guess I thought about starting my NOLA day with three hours drive (half the distance from Huston). than get there late morning and stay until late, driving only maybe the first hour towards Jackson. I thought it could leave me about 10 hours of NOLA time: one or two day activities one or two places to eat and a short night activity.
But you are pointing out one of the issues of this planned trip -- some of the days involves a lot of driving.
I had intense roadtrips before but never covered so much distance in so little time. But, this time compared to others we are 2 people (instead of large group of friends or an entire family) and I hope this would enable us to be more flexible and aggressive with mileage consumption
