One of the best ways to get a quick handle on the costs of motels is use the RTA Motel Reservation service and put in a few locations and you can tell (nearly) instantly the cost of the motels in any given area.
For my money, I nearly always stay at a Holiday Inn Express. The beds are always comfortable, the shower works well, Internet access is included, as is a good breakfast. Depending upon the area, prices can run from about $46 to $125 per night.
