A Golf is a bit small for an extended road trip. I don't think you would need anything as big as an Impala though, that's a "full size". A "standard" would be something like a Ford Fusion or Hyundai Sonata. A Ford Focus is an "intermediate" and would probably be like the Golf from a comfort standpoint.

I doubt you will find a company that will guarantee you get the exact model, it is standard policy to rent you a 'class' of vehicle and use an example [Fusion, Sonata etc] while stating 'Or similar'.
