Yes - the Nacimiento-Fergusson Road through the fort.
The, you take Mission Road to Jolon Road - and either head north to King City or south to Bradley.Quote:
The road starts on Highway 1 four miles south of Lucia, approximately 55 miles south of Carmel and 35 miles north of the Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument, just at the south end of the Cabrillo Highway (Highway 1) bridge over Kirk Creek. At the north end of the bridge is the Kirk Creek Campground, operated by Parks Management Company, a U.S. Forrest Service contractor. It heads east from the Pacific Ocean into the high country of Big Sur for 24.5 miles, passing through Fort Hunter Liggett and ending at Mission Road in Jolon.
The latest word from Caltrans is "at least a month" for temporary repairs.
Target date for reopening is now April 16. Contract has been awarded and the company has started work.
George, Thanks for the update -- That's very good news for the people of Big Sur.

That's pretty remarkable that they think they can rebuild it that quickly, but I guess it has done this sort of thing before, so I'm sure the experience helps.
They aren't doing a rebuild - they are doing something temporary just to get the road open.
I guess they have to give the Locals/Local business some kind of idea [[Gu]estimate] of when it may open and rightly so, but it seems at this point they still have concerns and are trying to determine how stable the remaining ground underneath and around the area actually is.
Fingers crossed for a quick fix.
Big Sur is now completely cut off by another mudslide.
Quote:
A mudslide is blocking Highway 1 at Limekiln State park. The mudslide is just south of the landslide that happened near Big Sur last Wednesday. According to the California Highway patrol the road is impassable but they should have it cleared by 1 p.m.
With this new mudslide Big Sur is closed off from both directions of Highway 1.
