Approximate Roadtrip cost?

Hi again,

I posted last week about general questions but now I'm sort of struggling with the route,

However, given this trip will be around 16 days I'm concious of how far I'm driving. I don't mind driving exactly, but I don't want to feel like I spent the whole time driving, I want plenty of time for exploring by foot.

I could make the route a lot more simple, by say starting and finishing in LA but I've been pretty interested by Oregon. Looks perfect and looks great to drive. Is this true?

Any advice or ideas on the route are welcome thanks. The one I've posted isn't exact, but it's a rough idea.

Does the 16 days include your trip from Tennessee or just the RV part? You could certainly cover the RV miles fairly comfortable in 16 day's but would depend on how long you want to stay in each place.

If Oregon appeals to you then why not, it is certainly on my "to do list" and very scenic but most States have great drives, scenery and National parks. You could start out in Salt lake City or Portland for instance and loop through Oregon, but you could also start and finish in many places as well as LA, San Fran, Las Vegas, Denver could also be options.

You really need to sit down with a good map and look around the forums to see what really appeals to you and get some dots on the map and work it out from there. In the "Roadtrip field reports" section you will find 2 of my previous RV trips, one starting from San Fran, the other Denver that will show possibilities but there are options just about everywhere.

Once you get it figured let us know and we can help to "fine tune" your trip.

In regards to the under 25 fees, I think a lot of rental companies have done away with them (or scaled back and replaced them with under 21 fees?). I am 24 and rented a car a few years back and was not charged extra for being underage.

Picking road trip destinations really depends on the person. I personally would not only recommend Oregon, but to also include some coastal cities of California. The cliffs in Pismo Beach, near San Luis Obispo, for example are gorgeous!

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Are you basing this on your one experience alone or have you heard something I haven't, as the under 25's surcharge appears to be alive and well !

I have heard of 24 year old escaping the charge if they are 25 when collecting the car and rarely when they are 25 within the same year, but other than that it continues to burden young renters.

The 16 days is just the RV part. I guess I'd need to go through each part and have a look what I want to see and then take it from there, though I'd imagine I'd be spending two days in 7 or 8 different places.
