Adjusting the stops for a late start, that makes the overnights:
Binghamton NY
Columbus OH
Columbia MO
Burlington CO
Salina UT
Note that this does extend each day by about an hour to keep it all within 6 days. You may want to add a 7th day - the best thing to do would be to play it by ear. If you have all the Motel 6's mapped out along the route, drive till you feel it's near time to quit and call in to the next Motel 6 and hold a room.
Note that the only tolls on this route are the short stretch of I-90 (NY Thruway) between I-87 and I-88, and the stretch of I-70 (KS Turnpike) between KC and Topeka. I-70 between Denver and UT does go over 10,000 feet, so if you want a slightly less hilly route, take I-44 out of STL to I-40. The downside of this route are the tolls in OK. This is still much better from a toll standpoint than taking I-90 all the way across NY, then I-80 across OH and IN.

Thanks!
GLC,
You are awesome! Thanks for drawing my route, I really appreciate the fact that you added the option to avoid hills, as they elevate the gas consumption quite a bit. I think the tolls would be more bearable than the poor gas mileage and the slow uphill.
Entering USA this morning was an emotional thing for me - I'm finally going back home, and I am very happy. The roads are better and the signs well placed, the money has value, things work...
Bringing the truck across Canada was a piece of cake. No problems. So, if anyone out there wants to save some money, this is the way to go; warning: hidden fees, that are not so hidden, on insurance and taxes took the total of rental to a little over $1,800. And still the best deal.
Tomorrow I cross back to USA and hit the road, Yeay!!!

Well, I-40 is not exactly flat - Flagstaff is around 7700 feet as I remember.
