If you've got the time, it's not a bad route. The problem is if the road closes. Keep an eye on the wind. And whether there's snow/ice on the road itself. Elk Mountain (between Rawlins and Laramie) is a bad area for major accidents (there's a curve going down hill that does in a lot of big trucks).
The big thing is, be prepared. Check the weather. Check 511 or Wyoming info for road closures/conditions (check districts, for Southeast and Southwest Wyoming).
