Thanks for the welcome dave.
I was looking on google maps, it looks like US101 is closer to the coast compared to other routes, but it is a much longer drive to Las Vegas. Do you guys have any idea where is a good midway point to stay a night at? Thanks
Either I-5 or I-15 is going to be two very long days if you only do this in two days. I'd expect at least 13 hours on the road in either case, and that's in perfect conditions with little traffic and no weather.
Twin Falls or Moutain Home would be roughtly halfway for the I-15 option while Redding would be almost exactly halfway via I-5.
US-101 is a much slower route and would likely take at least 4 long days to cover the distance, without stopping at any of the many stunning sites along the way.
As Michael has pointed out that is two very long days in perfect conditions and you will be setting off early and finishing late when the roads are more prone to icing.
I would seriously try and make extra time available for this drive, if there are any delay's you will need it anyway.
