probably
Yeah, if you're down to $5000, that really doesn't leave much to live on for 2.5 months.
Figure $50 on the low end for motels every night, you're nearly up to $4000 right there. Add in gas costs, which would probably be about $1500, and you're out of money before you've factored in any other costs.
Clearly, you'll have to make some cuts somewhere. Reducing your time would be the biggest thing, since that is going to reduce both your car and your lodging costs.
I'd also you can probably spend a whole lot less than the $3000 you are budgeting for spending a week in New York. Yes, NYC is an expensive place, but don't need to spend that much to enjoy the city.

ah good idea. we have got rid of 15 days, and 15 days less car hire has bought down the cost by about a thousand dollars. So now we have 2 months to get round our whole itinerary. do you think thats enough time now? Instead of staying a few days in places between new york and mississippi, we will just head there as quick as we can. So that will cut down a week or so accomodation.

thanks for the warm welcome... and for being so helpful.... :|

have you tried megabus.com? it can help a little from NY to DC, as well as LA to SF. booking with them in advance will cost only $1.5 you can get some rest, save car renting and gas also.

I believe there is an AirTrain from JFK into NYC. I would mapquest both destinations and see how far they are.

good ideas! thank youuuu.
Does anyone know if I will be allowed to purchase two one way flights, as it works out cheaper than a round trip, and still be allowed in under the visa waiver?

hi again
we've decided on budget rent a car, and it told us to get gold insurance and tha makes the young driver come down from £900+ to £550. Does that mean that our insurance is included in with that too? or is it literally just the car and young drivers fee? has anyone got any experience with renting a car from budget?
Thanks again
