route?
Well, you could try to visit Hell's Gate, just beyond Hope, but I cannot for the life of me remember which highway it's on. At Hope "the highway" splits into 3. (1, 3 or 5) We used to have a funny local saying "The only thing beyond Hope is Hells Gate. It's got some real cool water rapids and a tram car that takes you over it. It used to be the way people passed to go to the Yukon goldrush before the age of cars. If you google hellsgate they probably have a webpage which tells you all the details. If it is on one of the highways which your not planning on using, it's not far past Hope, so it may be worth it just to drive down whichever highway it's on, visit it, and come back to Hope to change highways. Note highways 1 and 5 meet up again in Kamloops. I do not know eastern BC well, and have not been to any of the places your visiting. The Hope slide, is also cool, but very low key. If I remember correctly it's on the old Highway 3 (literally) just past Hope. The landslide was so massive that it went up the mountain on the otherside of the highway, before coming back down. It was cheaper to build a new highway then to remove all that rock. There's still cars and bodies under all them rocks. The site is low key, there's just an outhouse and a signboard, but the signboard tells the story and impact of the slide, well worth breaking the journey for about 20 or so minutes to look around and marvel at mother natures awesome power. The hope slide has an article on wikipedia.

Ooops
Just going through and printing the details off in advance of my departure and just spotted this last post. My apologies for missing your input, totallytempo. It's just the ticket, that, I'll definately look to stop by. Do you think it's realistic to do Vancouver - Hope Slide - Hells Gate - Kamloops in a day?
