NJ to Long Beach--4 Teens, $7000, 8000mi--Doable?

So... yeah. A few friends of mine and I have been thinking about a road trip for the summer of 2008. We'll all be 18, and naturally, driving.... which can get very ugly in terms of insurance. What do ya'll think the best way of going about it is? Is there any company out there that offers car insurance for road trips? Are my friends going to have to go on my policy? Or if we did nothing, when they're driving... would the car just go uninsured?

So many questions, so many potential illegalities. What do you think?

You are right that there are lots of potential legal issues, and because of that, the advice of relative strangers on an internet message board probably isn't the best place to go to get your answers.

I assume you already have insurance on your Jetta? If that is the case, you need to talk to your insurance agent to find out what your current policy covers and does not cover.
