Yes, it's a potash settling pond on the way between the river road downstream from Moab on the Colorado, to the White Rim Trail on the way to Shafer Trail (and I could have been lost, dunno).
They inject water into underground potash deposits, pump the brine up into holding ponds where they let the water evaporate, then they scrape up the resulting potash. At some point in the process the liquid gets this intense blue color.
Yes, shot through a chain link fence.
And what got me in trouble was Shafer Trail, eventually reaching this viewpoint (which others can reach the easy way across from the visitor center in Canyonlands NP).

You can see Shafer Trail immediately below the rim on both the left and right sides of the photo, and also down at the bottom, exiting to the upper left. The ponds in question lay a few miles out thataway.
My immediate problem was the last mile or two up the side of a sheer cliff, on a narrow pitted dirt road with steep dropoffs and an acrophobic passenger.
Me and the 4X4 loved it: Linda; not so much.
This time I thought more about the clues before dashing off the answers.... Speaking of Shafer -- did you see this field report? Great photos there too!
Mark
Yes I did.
Yes they are.
And my next clue was going to be "there is a 'sticky' post somewhere in the forums that is associated with the 4th part of this puzzle".... but you beat me to it.
I'm going "dark" for awhile; if nobody posts another photo before then I'll dredge something up tomorrow before I destroy my home network again... really starting to loath routers/hubs/modems/access points... I'm a software guy, not a wires guy.
I enjoyed today's puzzles!
For a while they were being posted and solved at a record pace!
Whew!
I'll match your green trees with one of my own....

This cabin is seen by thousands of visitors each year -- where it is? And what's the attraction?

of the Cades Cove section of Great Smokies; haven't been there for over two decades so this is just a randumb guess.
It's actually the Noah "Bud" Ogle's farm cabin -- but I still don't know why that's very interesting to so many people -- except, of course, that it's in the Great Smokies National Park -- here's Megan's field report from September, 2007 when she captured that photo!
What is this?

One of my favorite drives (if I'm right about this one) is Titus Canyon in Death Valley National Park. More about this here....
Gorgeous photo by the way!!!
Mark
Yep, Titus Canyon, a little bit before it breaks into the open.
Here's a view looking the other way not far from where the last shot was taken:
