Seattle to Boston end of Dec, begin of Jan
Hello Fellow Road-Trippers:
I will be moving from Seattle to Boston either at the end of December or the beginning of January. I plan to take the "scenic view" to Boston which means
I-90 to I-82 then to I-84 into Salt Lake City, UT
from there I would like to take Route 6 to I-70 and then to Route 191 then down Route 555 into Albuquerque, NM
I have road tripped from Seattle to Boston before but I have never taken this routing to get to New Mexico before( Route 6 to I-70 then to Route 191 then Route 555) - can anyone comment on this piece of the route (driving conditions, scenery potential, available services) and whether this route would be feasible during winter?
After reaching Albuquerque I plan to follow I-40 east and then swing down into Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama before heading up I-95 to Boston. I would really like to spend some of the company's relocation money in these states and I would really like to see first hand the devastation/living conditions after Katrina. I am however concerned that hotels may still be filled to capacity and tourists like myself might not get a hotel room etc. Can anyone comment on the feasibility of road tripping into the Katrina damaged south and conditions you encountered. Welcome to the Forum!
Your route looks very doable -- except for the portion along US-6 between Spanish Forks and I-70 (via Price). It is a beautiful drive -- in good weather -- but a tad exciting when the snow is flying. If the weather outlook calls for clear, dry weather -- go for it. If there is the slightest chance of inclement weather, I would stay on I-15 to the US-50 cut-off and the over to I-70. Another reason to use this route, is that section of I-70 (which you would miss using US-6) passes through the San Rafael Swell - one of the most gorgeous Interstate routes in the country. One of these days, I will get my article published that features this section...

RTA member and fellow roadtripper Laura Huff has a good handle on this aspect in the local area. I would suggest looking at her posts about Louisiana.
