What is there to see and do between Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon? I'm planning a road trip from Montana to Arizona next month for the purpose of seeing both these places but I'm in no hurry. What's there to see along the way? Any tips or advice? My friend and I have no reservations anywhere --- any ideas for where we should try to stay? Thank you!
Just looking at the map, and in no general order:

<li>Bryce Canyon

<li>Capitol Reef
<li>Grand Teton National Park
<li>Arches National Park
<li>Gunnison
Get a detailed atlas of the area; you'd be surprised at some of the interesting things you can learn from them. Additionally or alternatively, get some books about the Southwest from your local library. The best ones give detailed information and distance from major thoroughfares.
I'm sure the regulars who have more experience travelling the area will be able to provide you with specifics!
Utah is what's between those two places! There is lots of information on this site about the areas you'd be traveling through. Run a search on this forum for "Utah" (or some other "key" words below) and you'll come up with dozens of hits. Also, go to the home page, and pull the drop-down menu where it says "browse RTA" and select scenic drives. There is a link under that (byways.org) that links to several articles on that area's scenic drives. For starters, there's Bear Lake, Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante, Arches, Canyonlands, Goblin Valley, Zion Canyon, Kodachrome Basin, whitewater sports at Moab, Capitol Reef Natl Park, Lake Powell, Pipe Springs Natl Monument, North Rim Grand Canyon, Lee's Ferry/Marble Canyon, the Hopi Villages, Navajo Natl Monument, and on and on. Don't foget Joshua Tree NP in California.
Just South of the Grand Tetons is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This is an delightful stop-over to enjoy white water rafting, wagon train rides, cowboy cookouts, etc. We had a great three day stay there last year enroute to Yellowstone.

Make sure to include Bryce Canyon, more beautiful, but less awesome than the Grand Canyon. If you enjoy hiking, you can take a quick hike partway down into the canyon and back in two or three hours. Also, if you are going thru eastern Wyoming, stop at Ft. Laramie. It takes you back in time to the early settlers and their relations with the Lakota and other Indian tribes. General Custer was posted there for awhile.

By any chance did you stop at the musuem to the east of the Fort? It has an truly amazing collection of indian artifacts found within about a 50 mile radius of that place.
