Hi, my friends and are planning a June road trip and we only have 2 weeks. Is it realistic to try for US2 from ME to Wash, then down the Pacific Coast, into AZ and NM, up to Colorado, down to TX, through St. Louis, accross MS and AL, onto GA and then back up to CT in only 14 days? None of us have ever done this before so we have no idea what we're about to get ourselves into...

The only way you could complete such a drive would be to drive around the clock for most days. US-2 is a beautiful drive, but it is slooooooooooow. The minimum distance you are talking about (with those zigs and zags) is 9300 miles, which would require a minimum of 14 days traveling 12.5 hours per day. It is possible, but certainly could be tiring!
Are you sure you and your friends are really up for such an adventure?

Thanks for the advice...Is there a faster way to get from ME to WA without losing all of the beauty and still touching into Montana? Or do you think we could do it in 3 weeks instead?
It really comes down to why you are choosing such an exhautive route. Are you going for the highest number of miles possible or best scenery or????
I would suggest choosing one region of country -- figure you will drive at a rapid and safe rate of speed -- get there and then spend several days seeing what can be seen and then rocket home.
Personally the mimimum time I would allow for your route would be four weeks and even then I am not sure it makes much sense.

the editor is right US 2 is super slow. It took me about 9 hours just to get across the Upper Pennisula of Michigan one summer.(lots of Rv's and Boat trailers) I-90 and I-94 (S.D. or N.D.) are not that much less picturesque than US2. North Dakota is pretty much the same wether you do 2 or 94. I personally would do I90 and hit yellowstone, glacier, badlands, rushmore etc. You can cover more ground and still a variety of beautiful landscapes and scenery.
