San Francisco to Miami in 5 weeks

Hi folks,

My husband and I are planning a 5 week road trip from San Fran to Miami over Xmas and New Years, and are really not sure of the places we should stay for a few days along the way.

San Fran, LA, San Diego, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami are definates, though I'm stuck mainly on the San Diego to New Orleans stretch (AZ and NM). Tucson, Las Cruces, and Dallas perhaps?

Any places you would think we HAVE to stop to ensure we everything the southern route has to offer?
