Hi. I'm planning to travel very soon from Pittsburgh to LA, and I need to get to my destination in about 3.5 days. I could extend this to 4.5 days, though, possibly...
Currently my scenario is basically to go through the interstates and make the following stops:
Pittsburgh to Louisville (1/2 day)
Louisville to Oklahoma City (full day)
Oklahoma City to Gallup, NM (full day)
Gallup to Los Angeles (full day)
A few questions:
Is my timetable feasible?
Do you recommend driving along Rt. 66 part of the way -- or any other scenic byways that won't slow me down too much?
If I did make it 4.5 days, would anyone be kind enough to suggest a rough revised itinerary--especially a scenic one?
Thank you very much.

Louisville to OK City in one day is the portion that I would question. 765 miles in one day is very difficult for a solo driver. I would take the 4.5 days...if only to preserve my sanity.
Good luck and safe driving.

Are you from Pittsburgh?
Are you from Pittsburgh? Have you ever listened to the "Highway Marimba" at Point State Park? The SW corner (just beyond Ft. Pitt Museum) is a small, concrete amphitheatre located directly under the interchange of I-376 and I-279. The supports for the bridge include large wooden timbers that resonate with booming tones when vehicle traffic passes overhead. It is like listening to the largest marimba you could ever imagine. The range of sounds is remarkably diverse and is one of our all-time favorite places to eat lunch and enjoy free "musical" entertainment.
A chunk of Rte 66 follows I-40 -- so you will be close by.
Timetable is reasonable and I wouldn't recommend too many side trips if you are going to stay on the schedule.

Thanks for the help & suggestions...
"Editor," I'm temporarily in Pittsburgh for another couple of months. Thanks for the Pt. State Park tip! I've been to Pt. State Park, but not to that spot. I'll definitely try to check it out.
