How much time is needed???

to actually stop and enjoy a cross country trip? We will be leaving from NYC, destination is CA. This is the first time for my husband & I to go cross country and I really want to absorb it all! We were thinking 2 weeks to go there and back but after reading through the discussion boards I'm starting to second guess myself thinking that 2 weeks is not enough. Anyone have any idea?

After traveling about 190,000 miles around the USA, I figure we have seen about 15% of the country. So two weeks might be stretching it a bit to "...absorb it all..."
