What is your road trip vehicle of choice?

I have an 89 Jeep Wrangler that I took on a two-month 10,000-mile trip in 2000. Since then I have made two trips to North Carolina in March 2001 and 2002 in the same Jeep. The past two Memorial Day weekends my girlfriend and I have driven to Indianapolis in her 00 VW Jetta GL for the Indy 500.

I was given an 88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that I have been working on. I hope to get that thing in tip-top shape so I can use that for road tripping. I can just throw a mattress in the back and call it home.

Next year I may buy a Subaru WRX sport wagon. If I do, it will be sure to see the roads of the USA.

What vehicle is your preference for road trips?

I also drive a Jeep Wrangler, in fact, I'll be hitting mine on the road tomorrow to move from Detroit to Los Angeles alone (should be fun-mabye interesting would be a better word) I have taken this trip once before so I know what to expect.

Only problem is, due to budgeting when getting the car, I got a soft top with no A/C. Being from Michigan all my life, it was hell trying to drive through Phoenix! I had never been exposed to that type of dry heat before and I SERIOUSLY thought I was going to die passing out behind the wheel (though people from that area for some strange reason don't consider 110 degrees a hot day!). This time I think I'll try and avoid it.

By the way, anyone from AZ, what's the temperature there right now?

of choice is our motorhome. I would like to have a jeep as a tow vehicle:)

My friends and I are hoping to get a mini-van for out road trip.
Like I said in another post, it may not be very attractive, but it'll be much more comfortable, a lot less cramped, and a better travel vehicle that our other options that we've thought of.

Obviously Arizona is very hot, but is it very humid?

Arizona is not homogenous in terms of climate or topography. I don't recall when your roadtrip is slated for -- but if it is in the winter -- you can expect snow and ice in Northern Arizona from November to March., In the summer, the area around Yuma is very humid -- approaching 95% humidity and 120 degrees F. Other places like Phoenix are nearly as hot but the humidity is closer to 55% to 60%. Douglas on the other hand rarely is wetter than 35% humidity except in a rain storm and in the drier months is much closer to 10%.

my 95 chevy blazer 2door!!! made it 9400 miles in 3 weeks this summer!!! Not one problem besides the flat tire i got 50 miles from being home!! one tough car!

Well, I have not benn on many road trips but I have just finished a 3,000 mile road trip in my CRX. I was extrealy exciting. I love that little car. By the way, I am 6'3 290 lbs and I was still comfortable in that car.

my honda civic hatchback carried a very surprising amount of stuff + two people across the country. the best part was averaging 47 mpg! i think the gas total was something like $180 from LA to boston. amazing. the worst part was realizing we could not sleep in the car in a pinch. instead we had to pitch camp in the dark under threatening thunderclouds, and then almost got eaten by cows in the morning!

Cows ate you? Bovine appetites rarely include protein. I could stomping humans --- but eating them? Nah!

This summer a friend and I drove to Glacier National Park in Montana from Milwaukee, Wisconsin in my 1994 Camaro. The drive was awful and uncomfortable. We slept in the car an amazing 4 nights! Luckily, the trip was well worth the drive because I never could imagine I'd see a place like Glacier. In addition to glacier n.p., we drove to badlands n.p., black hills n.f., devil's tower n.p., mount rushmore n.m., and northwest wisconsin for a well-rounded trip.

Words of advice: Do not "road trip" in a two-seater sports car.
