I'm planning a trip from Kansas City to LA in an '85 Chevy van highly equipped for sleeping...the only problem is that we'll need a place to shower on the way there / back and possibly a place when we get there if we decide to camp. Are there rest stops along the way that have showers?...or is there a directory of any kind that would help me out finding planned places? Thanks alot
I had a friend who traveled and slept in his car. He would stop at motels during the cleaning times and offer one of the maids five dollars to use the shower before they cleaned them. Most of the time his offer was accepted. Personally, I'd try the local Y.
Most truck stops have showers. I've even heard of one with a movie theatre!
That would be the Iowa 80! Right on I-80, West of the Quad Cities. Amazing place.
Try RV parks and campgrounds like KOA, Good-Sam, etc. Not so much anymore but in the past, I stopped often at places like that, offered a couple of bucks to use their campground shower, and was never turned down. If you stay with the more well known names like the above, they will almost always be clean. Have a great trip.
PUBLIC POOLS, COLLEGE GYMS, MOST PUBLIC BEACHES,OUR CHILDREN STILL SPEAK OF THE "BIRD BATHS" USING A BILLY CAN OF WATER AND A WASH CLOTH. ALSO TRY TAKING A SHOWER AND INSTEAD OF USING A TOWEL JUST GET DRESSED YOU WILL BE DRY BEFORE YOU KNOW IT AND YOU CAN GO UNDETECTED ALSO YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH A WET SMELLY TOWEL GOOD LUCK GEO.F.
